#47 of 100 - W-Cycle

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

No. 47 of our #100israelistartups is W-Cycle.

The numbers are staggering.

95% of plastic packaging material annually ends up in dumps or the natural environment, taking more than 400 years to decompose in our oceans and up to 1,000 years in landfills.

This is an ongoing catastrophe of such enormous proportions that it is literally killing our environment and doing untold damage to wildlife.

Israeli start-up W-Cycle is aiming to change the world.

W-Cycle develops and sells compostable packaging solutions for the food industry.

Rather than producing single-use trays from plastic and aluminium, W-Cycle’s patented ‘SupraPulp’ packaging product is based on sugarcane pulp, known as bagasse.

SupraPulp™, is the ultimate replacement for plastic made from 100% natural abounded materials. The plastic-free solution is designed as an ideal replacement for plastic, aluminium, or foam containers for food products, especially fresh, frozen, or prepared consumer packaged meals.

Today more than ever, there is greater demand and pressure on brands to offer environmentally responsible products. Providing a compostable solution for ready meals, and meat products allows W-Cycle to help food manufactures as well as consumers ditch plastic containers and create a cleaner environment.

According to the company, SupraPulp™ packaging can be used for hot, wet, and greasy foods. It will not leak nor absorb liquids and oils, can be used to bake or heat food in up to 270˚c and freeze in as low as -40˚c. The packaging is also freezer, microwave & oven safe.

Executive Chairman Oran Scott told us:

"Our mission is to bring about an end plastic, full-stop.

We’re one step closer to a plastic free world by offering a no-compromise food packaging solution that contributes to the protection of the environment and value chain of both nature and humans.

20 billion plastic food trays are used every year, enough is enough, let’s make a difference and get this stopped."

2Scots is delighted to highlight the groundbreaking work of W-Cycle and wish Oran, Lior, and all the team continued success in their journey to rid the world of the scourge of plastic.
